The research is expected to make a crucial contribution to the ways in which UK policymakers think about workfare programmes in the USA and how they may take these into account in relation to the UK. Within this group, the main sub-group is policy-makers located in the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The researcher has strong links with the DWP, strengthened since she was personally commissioned in October 2008 to write a literature review on active labour market policies.
